Die Falkland-Inseln – windgepeitschte Pflanzenwelt im Südatlantik

Die Falkland-Inseln liegen am äußeren Rand des antarktischen Zonobioms im westlichen Südatlantik. Obwohl die Entfernung zu den westlich gelegenen magellanischen Wäldern nur etwa 700 km beträgt, etablierte sich auf den Falkland-Inseln aufgrund klimatischer Besonderheiten eine baumlose Tundren-Vegetation. Die pflanzensoziologischen Beziehungen zu den angrenzenden Regionen und deren floristischer Einfluss auf die Falklands sind jedoch deutlich erkennbar. Der Beitrag behandelt die wichtigsten Pflanzengesellschaften des abgelegenen Archipels und portraitiert die interessantesten Pflanzenarten.
