Gulraiz Sharifs Jugendroman Ey hör mal! (2022) erzählt vom Erwachsenwerden in der Migrationsgesellschaft. Der autodiegetische Erzähler Mahmoud ist ein norwegischer Fünfzehnjähriger pakistanischer Abstammung, der sich in einem liminalen Zustand zwischen Kindheit und Erwachsensein befindet und sich in einer Krisensituation als Held des Alltags bewährt. Was Ey hör mal! aus der Perspektive der Kinder- und Jugendliteraturforschung interessant macht, ist der Zusammenhang zwischen dem thematischen Profil des Textes und der spezifischen Erzählweise. Der Beitrag arbeitet Besonderheiten des Erzählens über Identität und Migration, Rassismus und Klassismus unter Rückgriff auf das Konzept des Postmigrantischen als literarisches Gestaltungsprinzip heraus. Auf einer Metaebene soll zudem die eigene Lektüre machtkritisch reflektiert werden. Der eigentlichen Analyse des Romans ist daher ein Kapitel vorangestellt, in dem die Wahrnehmung bestimmter Textelemente, die später durch Rückgriff auf das Postmigrantische miteinander in Beziehung gesetzt werden, in ihrer Abhängigkeit von der sozialen Positioniertheit der Leser:innen (v. a. in Bezug auf natio-ethno-kulturelle Zugehörigkeit, class und age) thematisiert wird. Durch Hybridisierung literaturwissenschaftlichen und literarischen Schreibens und performatives Ausstellen von Positionalität und Partikularität wird nicht nur die literarische Repräsentation der Migrationsanderen* und der Dominanzkultur, sondern auch die Produktion literaturwissenschaftlichen Wissens über die literarische Repräsentation in den Fokus genommen.

Gulraiz Sharif’s Young Adult Novel Ey hör mal! 

Gulraiz Sharif’s young adult novel Ey hör mal! (2022) tells of growing up in a migrant society. The autodiegetic narrator Mahmoud is a fifteen-year-old Norwegian of Pakistani descent in a liminal state between childhood and adulthood and who proves himself a hero of everyday life. What makes Ey hör mal! interesting from the perspective of research in children’s and young adult literature is the connection between the thematic profile of the text and the specific narrative means employed. The article elaborates on special features of this narrative about identity and migration, and racism and classism, drawing on the concept of the post-migrant as a literary device. On a meta-level, the article also to reflects on the author’s approach as sensitive to power relationships. The analysis of the novel is preceded by a section that thematises the attention to certain textual structures in its dependence on the social positioning of the reader (especially in relation to national, ethnic and cultural affiliation, and class and age).Through the hybridisation of literary studies and literary writing and the performative exhibition of positionality and particularity, the focus is not only on the literary representation of the migrant Other* and the dominant culture, but also on the production of knowledge about literary representations in literary studies.
