Abstract

This paper presents a survey of Bolboschoenus taxa found in Germany and includes a determination key, characteristics of distribution and habitats and a list of localities for each species in Germany. It is based on revision of herbarium material and field work. The following species are native to Germany: B. maritimus s. str. – a halophile species distributed mainly along seashore and in inland regions with saline habitats; B. laticarpus – widely distributed in freshwater habitats especially in floodplains of great rivers; B. planiculmis – a rare species, occurring in secondary habitats (especially field depressions), recently only in Bavaria and Saxony-Anhalt; B. yagara – a rare species, concentrated to fishpond basins in Saxony/Upper Lusatia, Thuringia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Frequency of occurrence, possible spread and the need of protection are discussed.
