Abstract

In botanical taxonomy there is actually only one author of scientific plant names called Medikus or Medicus, without competing botanists of the same name beside him. The irrelevant standard authors "L.W.Medicus" and "W.Medicus", recommended by Brummitt & Powell (1992), are to be ignored. The author abbreviation "Medik." invariably applies to all names and combinations in question. Author abbreviations such as "Med.", "Medic." or "Medicus" are to be standardised accordingly.
